Mario Party 9 is a game that allows up to four players to compete in fun minigames, like "Dance Dance Revolution" or "Simon Says". These minigames are designed for players of all ages. The number of turns can be adjusted by the player, so younger children may only need three turns while older children may need five. This title features a new mode called "Boo Mode", which is played with one player on their own against the computer. It's unknown what the purpose of this mode is, but it could have something to do with taking down Bowser because he has been released from his cage for his birthday. Mario Party 9 also includes online play and downloadable content packs that enhance existing games called Challenge Mode DLC Packs. There are six packs for each of the fifty minigames. There are also new modes available, such as "Battle Minigames" and "Boss Battles". The 50 minigames are divided into five categories: "Mario Party", "Board Game", "Bowser Party", "Toad's Rec Room" and decorative themes. There are also new playable characters, including Bowser Jr., Koopa Paratroopa, King Boo, Dry Bones and Hammer Bro. As in previous Mario Party titles, each character moves differently in the boards. Additionally all the boards in this title have a theme associated to them when playing with Yoshi or Princess Peach who also return from previous entries in the series. The games in Treasure Cruise and Bowser's Warped Orbit, originally from Mario Party 8, return in this game. This is the last Mario Party game for Wii to be released in PAL regions, and it is so far the only Mario Party title for Wii to be released outside Japan. A notable feature of this game is that it includes a mode where one player can play alone against the computer. The goal is to get as many Mini Stars as possible and defeat Bowser at the end. However, if players lose all their Mini Stars they will not get to see their ranking and will not be able to fight Bowser at all. The computer can be set to a wide variety of skill levels, and its name can even be customized to anything the player wants (although it is impossible to name it "Bowser"). There is even an option that lets multiple people play solo at the same time, which is often called "Solo-Party mode". The game was first announced at E3 2010. Early details suggested there would be various new game modes, with one of them being played on an island with multiple paths. A player could roll the dice block and go on certain paths; if any of them landed on a Blue Space or Red Space, they would have to turn back. In addition to this, if the player rolled a Star, they would get a "Star-Time" for getting all seven stars. The mode was revealed in the final game as "Boo Mode", where players compete against the computer solo or with a set number of turns or a set number of Mini Stars. It also features an option to compete in a traditional manner against up to three friends. The game has been praised for its variety and excitement during gameplay, with reviewers commenting on how much better each minigame is than its predecessors in the series. Whilst lacking much in terms of innovation compared to Mario Party 8, Mario Party 9 has been well received for its improved presentation and balance when compared to the previous title. eccc085e13
